In the Olive Grove
The Olive Grove by season
SPRING - Fertilize around trees so that the spring rains can wash the nutrients in for the trees to use. Spray trees with copper based spray before flowering starts to keep at bay any fungal diseases. Trees start flowering September through to November. Pray that there are no violent storms when trees are in blossom. Mow around trees.
SUMMER - Mow, mow and mow again. Give trees a summer spray after the fruit has set. Keep area under trees free from weeds. Take a picnic into the grove and enjoy the view.
AUTUMN - Harvest fruit - usually about May, June. Several pickings may be necessary as the varieties ripen. After harvesting prune trees.
WINTER - Continue pruning and do a stronger winter clean up spray to kill any overwintering bugs and diseases. In milder areas like Auckland new trees or replacement trees can be planted in winter to give them time to get established before the summer heat.
